Goodbye, IE 6. We knew you all too well.

Google's announcement that it will no longer support IE 6 for its Docs application caught our attention in a big way.

I've been saying for some time that IE 6 is holding back the web for its poor performance and standards compliance. Building an "IE6" version of a website almost as its own entity is downright evil — but so far, it's been a necessary evil. That may be changing in 2010.

Setup Assistant Coming Soon!

We've had a great deal of success with our early client discovery system, which collects some information from our new clients to help us organize their project. In 2010, we're expanding that service.

Tablet, Tablet, Everywhere

Let me start by making two things clear. Steve Jobs is not my long-lost uncle, and he has not given me an Apple iSlate to test for the next few weeks.

The Browser Size Question... Answered

Google Labs has announced a new service called Browser Size that we plan on using with every new client.

Browser Size will help us better visualize how well a given web design performs by providing us with vital data on the size of a typical visitor's screen. This information is invaluable, since it affects usability and conversion rates.

Thanks Google! This is going to be very valuable to our customers.

Plans for Drupal 7

We're big believers in Drupal, the open source content management system. It's fast, well supported by a dedicated community, stable, secure, and SEO-friendly. Sometime in 2010, we're going to make the move to version 7. Of course, we plan to start by upgrading MPLSMarketing.com to Drupal 7 and testing it out for several weeks before we begin moving clients and new projects, but a few things are clear.

ECHO Comments and Happy Thanksgiving!

Last night we integrated JS-Kit ECHO comments into our blog, which makes it easier than ever to leave a comment, share content, and read the blog itself. ECHO comments is fantastic and we're excited to use it. It's also available to all of our clients running on Drupal (if you aren't sure, and we built your website, the chances are that you are running Drupal!).

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Enjoy a nice, long, restful week with friends and family.

What does Chrome OS mean for your website?

Google announced yesterday its plans for their Chrome OS, due out sometime late next year, and a parallel open-source Chromium OS project. A couple clients asked me this morning what it all meant, so I thought I would try to shed some light on the subject.

Making Drupal Even Easier

We make it no secret that we're big believers in Drupal, the open source content management system that we've been working with for nearly a decade. Drupal is scalable, secure, and well-supported by a vibrant community. It's also very SEO-friendly, a top concern for us.

We're always looking for ways to make the CMS even easier to use for our clients, and recently we've made standard a group of modules that offers great solutions.

Motion Video Steals the Show

With a major marketing conference looming in New York, our client of many years asked our creative team to put together a presentation. The presentation would display on a large flat-screen TV above their conference booth. We realized immediately we only had precious seconds of "eyeball time" from people by our client's booth as they made their way through the conference. That meant creative visuals, simple content, and to show off our client's impressive array of clients (brands like Microsoft, IBM, Google, Visa, and others).
